Re: Self care by growing a garden

You might get seeds from your Strawflower @Smc, & be able to plant them for next season. That would be great.

I did that with sweet peas years ago too, & I had more & more of them growing for years - just from re seeding them.

My Bull Banksia has spectacular yellow Banksia flowers on it at the moment. It took close to 10 years before it started flowering.

Banksias can be hard to grow, & to get established. That's the only Banksia I've ever planted, that's survived.

It's now over 4 metres high, though slender & not taking up much ground space at all.

The honeyeaters absolutely love the Banksia (& Grevillea) flowers. They were drinking nectar out of the flowers yesterday afternoon.

My Red-Flowering Gum (native to SW WA), that I planted as a tiny tubestock over 10 years ago - it's now 4 metres high. Won't get much bigger, it's a small tree.Red Flowering Gum

Your natives look lovely @Adge
Some areas I sprayed are dying off well. Hoping to get a bit more done. The mower man is on holiday and I ended up letting the cattle in the orchard to tackle the grass. The fruit trees I have there are struggling and they don't eat the berries which are my focus. I only let them in during the day.

Been a bit dry & windy in my neck of the woods and I cleared a spot bit did not plant two yellow daisies I bought but did throw some cornflower seeds about. The lawn seems to be growing so fast. Mower man has been on holiday, hopefully will come this week.

Helloooo green thumbs

Keen to get out with the wipper snipper and ckear the fence line @Former-Member.

Have quite a bit of work to do around our yard, has been too wet since I finished uni though. Next week is looking promising.

Re: Self care by growing a garden

Lantana doing well, I will have to get on to that before council starts hassling me about it. So much to do it is hard to know where to start.

agriculture-plant-plantlife-gardens-backgardens-sunflowers-jfa0378_low.jpgEvening all..

Still attempting to reboot my neglected veg garden. I put some pumpkin seeds in yesterday. Planted way too close, but Ill do the Chinese thing of picking the young shoots of any surplus ones to use as a green veg, and leave two or three to grow out into full sized vines.

Bought a pot of basil which has been divided into five clumps and planted into a bigger pot. I'm trying out a few edibles in pots this year, including some strawberries and herbs.

I've got some sunflower, cosmos and echinacea seeds soaking to hopefully pre-sprout them before putting into the garden, so that they've got a tiny head start.
