Re: 🐦Bird 🐦Therapy🐦

I caught 3 of the 6 young (baby) Budgies this afternoon, to bring them inside. So that the Bourke parrots in that small aviary will be less crowded (& happier).

I was tired, I'm out of practice with using a bird net - I haven't used one in a long time.

One Budgie escaped from the net (before reaching the house), & flew up over the almond tree & disappeared.

I'm really upset. That was the first Budgie breeding success that I've had in well over 10 years.

Now he's gone, only 5 young ones left...

These things happen @Adge, sont beat yourself up for being 10yrs out of prac, but its still sad, maybe put an empty open cage beside the Avery as he might come with seed and water, he might come home to the calls. I saved a young sparrow once, the mother came fed it through the wire a few days till it was syrong enough to fly again, so cute.

hi @Former-Member

I'm one of the new moderators and i just discovered this thread - your photos are the loveliest!  My best friend and i call each other the bird and the possum - so you might say i have a real connection with birds.  I saw yesterday that the Guardian is running it's annual Australia's Favourite Bird comp:

https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2017/nov/20/what-is-australias-favourite-bird-have-your-say-in-the-guardians-2017-poll

I voted for the Kookaburra :).

Thanks again for the beautiful pics and for the bird therapy thread :).

Re: 🐦Bird 🐦Therapy🐦

@Former-Member@Former-Member@Shaz51@Adge@BambiFawn I haven't been in this flat this time of year, so spotting the local birds is very interesting. So far I've seen Magpies, white cockatoos, black birds, plovers ( they run down the middle of the road every morning) galahs, no small birds so far. I've planted a gravillia and bottlebrush, so once they are big enough, I might see a few new comers. Hope so.

That's lovely @Maggie, planting bird attracting trees bushes in your garden. I couldn't say what birds I like best but I love the little wings a lot. Liked the Blue Wren since a child 🐦

Re: 🐦Bird 🐦Therapy🐦

@Adge, I counted x9 eggs in the finch nest. Coildnt believe it! They don't seem to sit on them much, keep them warm but come I'm and out. Should I throw them away?

Re: 🐦Bird 🐦Therapy🐦

9 eggs, that's great @Former-Member Yes that is a lot.

Yes you're right that if they've been left to go cold (at any point), they won't hatch.

It's up to you. I would maybe wait & see, in case some of them may still hatch.
