Carer support

Hi all, I'm supporting an adult child and I am hoping to connect with other parents in a similar position.

Re: Carer support

Hi @mazza3

I just wanted to take a moment to welcome you to the forums.

I know it's not easy to reach out like this, it can be a big step. I know there are lots of other parents on here who are caring for their adult children too, and I hope that just knowing that can help you to feel that you're not alone in this, while we wait for some to respond to your post.

Also just a quick note that we've edited out your name at the end of your post there and replaced it with your username as the forums are an anonymous space 🙂

Re: Carer support

Hi @mazza3, Welcome to the forum.

I'm a parent of an adult child with ASD. She is 28 with social anxiety and living with us her parents. She has NDIS funding and has cooking club, irish dancing. Therapy and a women's club for friendship and company. She is not work ready and finally we got relief for her from applying for jobs in order to recieve the DSP there was a huge gap between employment job centres and them understanding the autism spectrum and them assuming she was capable of getting a job.

I'm here for a chat.

Re: Carer support

Thank you for your support

Re: Carer support

Thanks for your reply
I will get on chat and work out how to do it

Re: Carer support

Hi @mazza3

I'm supporting my young adult daughter who has BPD, complex PTSD, and chronic pain which she manages with heavy use of cannabis.

We live in a regional area and the treatment options are limited and overstretched.

Re: Carer support

I hear you, thank you for your reply. Its a lonely journey that's for sure. At 72 I often think how much longer I can stay strong

Re: Carer support

@mazza3 I really understand what you are saying about the loneliness. I feel it daily. People dont get it and avoid my daughter. For 1 she is very pretty and 2 she is autistic. So they give her a very wide berth and at occasions, events it is lonely, people, family dont want the awkwardness for them. Yeah, I feel lost and lonely. I have a husband whose iphone is glued to his hands and a daughter who hates talking. The lonliness is real.

Re: Carer support

I hear you, no one wants to address my sons issues. I'm 72 and now worry about him once I'm not here.
